Juneathon Day 16. For one reason and another I tend to run in Hyde Park on Thursdays and also try to run a few miles more than my other weekday runs. Today I arranged to meet up with a fellow Juneathoner and lunchtime Hyde Park runner badwabbit for a circuit of the Serpentine.
Yes that’s why it poured with rain all morning! Anyway my run today summed up all the good things about Juneathon.
Juneathon gets you out the door.
It was raining when I left home and being fairweather I would not have set off unless I had to be somewhere at a certain time to meet someone. (If you want proof that I was not fairweather today you can see a photo of me masquerading as a drowned rat in badwabbits blog.)
Juneathon encourages you to run more.
I also ran my longest Juneathon run so far today. I didn’t just run to Hyde Park and home again before I got too bored. Because I had company I stayed and ran around a bit more (round the serpentine at a decent pace too!) I run most of the time on my own and realised that sociable running makes the time pass quickly. I really didn’t realise that I’d run 9 miles until I got home. (Also my Garmin was playing up – it’s fair-weather – and had missed off the first mile and a bit so I had to add that back).
Juneathon is social.
I spend many hours running past other runners in London. Today I ran and had a chat with one and met another one of the great people I converse with via Juneathon blogs and twitter.
Juneathon keeps you motivated (whether you like it or not!)
When I got home and was grappling with downloading my run onto garmin connect (in chinese – yes that it’s true, see below!) and eating all the food I could lay my hand on, @runningman856 mentioned on twitter that he didn’t want to run today so @jo365 and I encouraged him (he called it cyber bullying) to get out there. He was grateful that he did, because later on when the three of us helped to motivate @the_magathon to go to running club in Manchester he didn’t have to go out and run in the same hail storm!

Couldn’t agree with you more! While it can be a pain sometimes, I think Juneathon definitely has far more pros than cons.

Totally agree. Juneathon is so great for getting you out there no matter what the weather and no matter how you’re feeling 🙂 Love it!

Here, here 🙂 if it wasn’t for Juneathon I’d have stayed indoors, got over my cold (have I mentioned I’ve not been well?) and be fully recovered now, rather than extended its duration by 3 weeks – hurrah!

Well done – 9miles and it wasn’t even nice weather!! I always run on my own but have been thinking of joining a running group. Will just have to rely on my virual running friends and fellow Juneathoners for support at the moment though 🙂

Lovely to meet you in RL Rachel. I thought that it was YOU setting that incredible pace! Enjoyed it lots too. Shame that the weather turned out to be considerably better in the afternoon!!! Am planning a little run today this afternoon from Ealing Broadway to West Ruislip – about 14-15 miles. Will be passing the time by thinking about all the blogs I have to write on!! 🙂 x

I like running, always have and always will, simple as. I like Juneathon, it’s new (to me), different and fun. But most of all I love all the other Juneathoners ive come to know. What a fantastic bunch of people you all are. To be honest, I’ll be glad on day 30 when I dont have to go out every day, but I don’t want the Juneathon group to come to an end!
Well done Rachel for the 9 miles, and thanks for the motivation yesterday xx

I love meeting up with other athoners and putting voices and faces to blogs. Definitely one of the perks.
